Civil Administration to link A'Tawani village to Mekorot water infrastructure

25 Jul 2010
Village leaders appealed to the Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria even though the Palestinian Authority is responsible for providing water to A'Tawani.

Following staff work coordinated by the Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria, a ceremony will be held tomorrow (Monday), 26 July 2010, to mark the connection of the southern Hebron Hills village of A'Tawani to the Mekorot - Israel National Water Company infrastructure. A water supply facility will be inaugurated a few dozen meters from the village, allowing - in the first stage - village water containers to be filled without the need for transport.

Linking A'Tawani to the Mekorot infrastructure was made possible by an appeal from village leaders to Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria Director Brig.-Gen. Yoav Mordechai, who decided to link the village forthwith in light of the villagers' plight, even though the Palestinian Authority is - according to the 1995 Interim Agreement - responsible for providing water to A'Tawani. The Civil Administration will presently issue a tender to provide an internal water system in the village, at the Civil Administration's expense.

The Civil Administration will continue to work to improve the fabric of life for all residents of Judea and Samaria, while investing resources and coordinating with those bodies active in the area.
