ATTY.-GEN. OPINION REGARDING ALLOCATION OF GAS MASKS

(Communicated by Justice Ministry Spokeswoman)

Following a debate between Attorney General Elyakim Rubinstein and the legal advisor for the defense establishment, the following legal position has been decided upon, according to which the State of Israel has the responsibility to supply gas masks to the entire population residing in the country, including foreign workers. Questions regarding how to supply gas masks to non-citizens are being examined. Under consideration is the possibility that employers of foreign workers must supply them with gas masks. In addition, ways to supply gas masks directly to other foreign workers residing in Israel are being examined. The legal opinion regarding the implementation of the decision, including costs, have been presented to the Defense Minsitry.

The Supreme Court's decision also clarified that the Defense Minsitry is required to supply gas masks to residents in area C who are under the administrative responsibility of the IDF.
