MK Majalli Whbee


Majalli Whbee was born in Israel in 1954, in the village of Beit Jan. He served in the IDF, where he attained the rank of lieutenant colonel.

He holds a B.A. in Political Science and the History of Islam and the Middle East from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and an M.A. in the History of the New Middle East from Haifa University.

In public service, Majalli Whbee served in 1996 as Supervisor of Road Safety in the Ministry of Transportation. From 1996-1999 he served as Senior Aide to the Minister of Infrastructure Ariel Sharon, and in 1998-1999 as Senior Political Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ariel Sharon and as his personal emissary to special contacts with Arab and Islamic nations. From 1999-2002 he served as Director General of the Ministry for Regional Cooperation

Whbee was elected to the 16th Knesset in January 2003 as a member of the Likud faction. He served as a member of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, the Education, Culture, and Sports Committee and the Joint Committee for the Defense Budget.

One of the founders of the Kadima party, he was elected to the 17th Knesset in April 2006, serving as Deputy Speaker of the Knesset and as a member of the following committees: The Finance Committee, the Internal Affairs and Environment Committee, the House Committee and the Public Petitions Committee. He is chairman of the Lobby for the Druze and Circassian Communities in Israel and a member of the Lobby for Jewish-Arab Coexistence. Within the framework of his international parliamentary activities, Whbee is chairman of the Israel-Holland Parliamentary Friendship Union, chairman of the Israeli delegation to the Euro-Med and vice-chairman of the Political-Security Committee of the Euro-Med.

In 2005, Majalli Whbee was appointed Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's office and from June of that year until 2006 served as Deputy Minister of Education, Culture, and Sport. He served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs from October 2007 until March 2009.

He is married and the father of four children.
