Statement to the press by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon after meeting with Slovakian Prime Minister Mikulas Dzurinda

Jerusalem November 11, 2003

Mr. Prime Minister,

I wish to greet you, once again, and welcome you here in Jerusalem. As you can see, you are among friends here.

We had a long meeting today, in which we discussed a number of issues of mutual interest to both our countries: the advancement of relations, including in the fields of economy and trade, and the enhancement of security cooperation. I hope that the scope of cooperation and relations will greatly increase in both these fields, following your visit here.

I wish to congratulate you, once again, Mr. Prime Minister, on Slovakia's joining the European Union. I hope that the positions of the European Union with regard to Israel will be affected by those of Slovakia, and not vice versa.

In conclusion, Mr. Prime Minister, I wish to thank you for your activities, and those of the entire Slovakian government, regarding the battle against anti-Semitism, your warm approach toward the Jewish community in your country, your government's actions with regard to the commemoration of the Holocaust and your decision to establish a national Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Thank you again, Mr. Prime Minister, I am convinced that your visit here will strengthen and deepen the relationship between our countries - a relationship to which I attach great importance.
