"Buy local products" was the commercial slogan of the Land of Israel in the 1930s and 1940s. The flooding of local markets with fresh farm produce from neighboring countries, and the import of industrial goods from Europe, obligated the Jewish community in the Land of Israel to defend its fledgling agriculture and industry. The Bezalel art academy, established in Jerusalem in 1906 by the artist Boris Schatz, was a center of creative activity. This poster, designed by Bezalel artists, called on Jews to visit the Land of Israel and acquire the works of local artists. (1920s)

TRAVEL WITH THE HEBREW FLEET | |

Israel's maritime arm was established in 1936 with the aim of promoting Jewish seafaring. The goals were to create a large Jewish fleet, instill nautical awareness among Jews in the Land of Israel and the Diaspora, and train Jewish sailors, Jews of the Land of Israel were called upon to sail with the small Hebrew fleet when travelling to and from Europe. The Land of Israel took part in the worldwide spread of commercial aviation. To encourage use of the new air service, residents of the Land of Israel were urged to favor Jewish aircraft over foreign carriers. Young people began studying for aviation careers. (1930s)

Zionist Congresses, held at various locations in Europe, were accompanied by exhibits of industrial and farm products of the Land of Israel. Delegates from around the Jewish world encountered, some for the first time, the industrial and agricultural accomplishments of Jewish settlement in the Land of Israel. The selection may have been limited, but every product attracted great interest. (1925)
