President Peres addresses Interfaith Conference in Kazakhstan
1 Jul 2009
"Your decision to initiate an interfaith dialogue in your country can serve as an example for the rest of the world, parts of which seem to have forgotten that we all share the same God, who created man in His image and called him to sanctify life... While Christians, Muslims and Jews used to believe that there was just one God for all, compassionate, merciful and righteous, there are nowadays others, luckily a minority, that sanctify a different God that permits massacres, forgives cruelty, and calls upon his believers to destroy, kill, lie and ruin."

While the right of the Jewish people to national self-determination is self-evident, Israel expects the Palestinian leadership to turn to its own people and to state in a very clear and concise manner that they indeed recognize the right of the Jewish people to their own state in their historic homeland.

Israel presented its report on supporting Palestinian capacity to the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee which convened in Oslo on June 7-8, 2009. The report presents steps and actions undertaken by Israel during 2008 and the first quarter of 2009 to substantially improve the West Bank economy, alongside building security and other capacities. These measures have been taken in parallel with diplomatic and economic efforts led by the international community, despite the security risks posed by continued Palestinian terrorist activity against Israel’s civilian population.

A recent generous gift from the Leon Levy Foundation and Shelby White, Chairman of the Friends of the Israel Antiquities Authority, will enable the IAA to excavate, conserve and establish the Lod Mosaic Archaeological Center on the site.

PM Netanyahu (22 June): "The true nature of the Iranian regime has been unmasked. You can actually see the lack of Iranian democracy at work. This is a regime that represses its own people, supports terrorism worldwide and openly denies the Holocaust, while calling for the elimination of Israel. This regime is not only a great threat to our existence, but also to moderate Arab countries, the safety of Europe and to the peace in the world.
FM Liberman (3 June): "The Iranian nuclear issue is obviously not exclusively an Israeli problem. This is a problem for the entire Middle East. The Arab countries are especially concerned about Iran's nuclear program. Iran contributes to instability in the Middle East."

June 25, 2009 marks three years of Staff Sergeant Shalit's captivity. Hamas continues to refuse Red Cross access to the kidnapped soldier.
On June 25, 2006, Gilad Shalit was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists within Israeli territory, near the Kerem Shalom crossing. The kidnapping was part of an unprovoked and well-planned attack which involved seven terrorists, armed with explosive charges, anti-tank missiles, light arms and more, and which made use of a tunnel under the Israel-Gaza border. During the course of the attack, two soldiers were killed, and five other soldiers wounded.
