The tragedy that struck Haiti recently is a vivid wakeup call for authorities in Israel and neighboring countries. The area surrounding Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, the city of Jericho controlled by the Palestinian Authority, and Amman, Jordan are all at risk from a major earthquake. Launched in October, a three-year academic medical emergency training program is teaching young Jordanians and Israelis how to work together as a frontline team in a concerted regional response to emergency scenarios.

PM Netanyahu: "The stronger those sanctions against Iran, the more likely will be that the Iranian regime will have to choose between advancing its nuclear program and advancing the future of its own permanence." "The greatest threat facing mankind is the specter of a militant Islamic regime acquiring nuclear weapons."
President Peres: "Moral sanctions are not less important than economic sanctions. A man that calls for acts in terror and who hangs people in the streets is a military dictator."

• Peace can only be achieved through earnest negotiations which bridge gaps and resolve all outstanding issues. • The conflict is rooted in an ongoing refusal by the Palestinians and the Arab world to recognize the right of the Jewish people to a state in their historic homeland. • The most logical resolution of the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians is the establishment of two nation states.

Under the slogan "Innovation for Better Life", Israel will highlight innovation at its pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai along with traditional Jewish culture. This is the first time that Israel is building a national pavilion at a World Expo. The pavilion resembles two clasped hands, symbolizing Israeli innovation and technology and consists of three areas: the Whispering Garden, the Hall of Light, and the Hall of Innovations.
Israel will also participate in Expo Shanghai Online, an innovation of Expo 2010 which offers a three-dimensional virtual visit to the Expo site via the Internet.

The international community is moving toward sanctions. We're involved in this process and held important meetings with two pivotal members of the Security Council - Russia and the second in China. The international community is moving toward lower-level sanctions, which are not unimportant, but may not be enough. The only ones proposing the kind of sanctions we're talking about are the US Congress.

FM Liberman said that there is no doubt that Iran remains the main threat to world peace. Israel should change its policy towards Iran, and request that the United States adopt the Cuban sanctions model that has already proven its effectiveness and is strong enough to strangle and overthrow the Iranian regime.

PM Netanyahu (3 Mar 2010): "We received offers from the mediator three months ago. We said we were willing to go far, but not as far as releasing prisoners that are likely to murder again either in Judea and Samaria or territory inside the Green Line. This was the essence of our response. It has been three months since we passed on this answer and to date we have not received an official response."
On June 25, 2006, Gilad Shalit was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists within Israeli territory, near the Kerem Shalom crossing to the Gaza Strip in an unprovoked and well-planned attack in which two soldiers were killed and five others wounded. Gilad is one of seven ISRAELI MIAs.
