The Netanya beach boasts a new elevator to the sea - the first of its kind in Israel - which descends from the promenade along the cliff top to the beach. The elevator was built because of the difference in height between the city center and the sea shore and enables easy and speedy access - within 20 seconds.
Minister of Tourism Gideon Ezra, who inaugurated the elevator said: “The Ministry of Tourism has taken upon itself to provide access to tourist sites for people with special needs and handicaps. The elevator will serve the citizens of Netanya and the surrounding area, as well as tourists and vacationers in Netanya and the surrounding area, to descend to the beach speedily."
This new facility includes two elevators, each with a capacity of 30 people. Special paths will be paved from the elevators to the shoreline to facilitate access for the disabled.
Netanya Mayor, Mrs. Miriam Fierberg-Ikar, added that the municipality plans to continue to invest in tourism, and is planning to construct a new promenade in the northern part of the city.
