| The compound - an assembly of one new building and ten renovated structures - comprises an integral element of the urban texture. Its unique location between the east and west zones of the city provides the compound a spatial value as a bridge connecting the various fabrics of the city. Weighted with historic importance, the site calls for a delicate response to the complexities of the meeting between the Jewish and Arab cultures. The central plaza emphasizes a communal attitude towards the city's inhabitants.
Although the new addition is notable amongst the rehabilitated buildings, their contribution to the overall composition is no less significant. The scale, stone details, and traditional motifs take on contemporary expression and project a new civic image built on the foundations of an intense history. | |
