Mamilla Jerusalem,

Architect: Moshe Safdie

This exclusive residential complex, opposite the renowned Jaffa Gate, is situated at the edge of the former "no-man's land" zone of the divided city of Jerusalem. Due to its delicate and sensitive programme - to moderate the transition between the old and the new parts of the city - the planning process is still ongoing - and has undergone many changes over the years.

The picturesque quality of these terraced dwellings takes its cues from architectural lexicon of both sections of the city. The narrow lanes, inner courtyards and bridges structures give the neighborhood relative intimacy yet allows it to enjoy the dramatic views of the Old City walls.

The elaborate seemingly traditional detailing of the domes, arches and ornament are all manufactured through advanced technologies of custom precasting and the latest composite materials. The recently completed Hilton Hotel with its post modernistic citation of oriental themes, further extends these principles of assimilating the new with the old, as well as the west and the east.
