   ARCHEOLOGY

The past is being intensively uncovered in Israel - in the Old City of Jerusalem, the Temple Mount area, ritual baths outside Jerusalem's Old City walls and at Masada, numerous synagogues

throughout the country, as well as the Dead Sea Scrolls, containing the earliest existing copy of the book of Isaiah, in still readable Hebrew script. Excavations have also revealed vestiges of the other civilizations which left their imprint on the land, including the Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Crusaders, Mamelukes and Ottomans. All finds are recorded, and historical sites are carefully preserved for scholar and visitor alike.
