| The Land of Israel is the birthplace of the Jewish People. It is the stage on which a significant part of the nation's long history was enacted, the first thousand years of which are recorded in the Bible. Here, the cultural, religious and national identity of the Jews was formed. Here, the physical presence of the Jewish People has been maintained unbroken for centuries as a sovereign state, and at other times under foreign domination.

Even after most of the Jews were forced into exile, the Jewish People never forgot their bond with the Land. It remained the core of their national life and the center of their aspirations. With the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, Jewish independence was renewed after 2,000 years.
