SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INDUSTRY | |
| |
| The percentage of Israelis engaged in science and technology, and the relative sums spent on research and development, are both among the highest in the world.
|
Israel aims to maintain a level of excellence and specialization which enables it to compete in the international arena. What it lacks in size and natural resources, it makes up for with a work force comprising many gifted scientists, engineers and technicians, who work both in academic research and industry. The sense of shared goals ensures a high level of cooperation between government and public institutions, and civilian and military enterprises. Outstanding achievements in research and development have been recorded in the fields of electronics, optics, computer-based equipment design, aeronautics, robotics, agriculture, medicine and energy.
These successes embellish the country's already excellent reputation in areas of industrial and commercial production that range from food processing, textiles and fashion design, to diamond polishing and pharmaceuticals.
