   MIGRATING BIRDS  KNOW  NO  BOUNDARIES

Israel's location at the meeting point of Europe, Asia and Africa, is a crossroad for the migrations of tens of millions of birds, such as the white storks in this picture.

The migratory air-lanes over Israel lead south to Africa in the fall and back north to Europe and Asia in the spring. Thus the country is the best spot in the world to observe this unique natural phenomenon.

   SPANISH SPARROWS  FLY  OVER  EILAT

About 500 million migratory birds fly through Israel's skies, in both directions, each year. At Eilat, huge flocks of Spanish Sparrows can be spotted.

   WHITE PELICANS

The White Pelicans are the largest and heaviest of the migrating birds over Israel. Flocks of these pelicans fly off at dawn to continue their way along the Mediterranean coast.

HONEY BUZZARD  AND  LESSER  SPOTTED  EAGLE

Twice a year, millions of raptors fly over Israel, including the Honey Buzzard (above) and the Lesser Spotted Eagle (below) which land to drink water before or after crossing arid zones.
