IAF PLANE OVER THE DEAD SEA
The huge numbers of migrating birds have caused thousands of accidents with Israeli Air Force planes, some of which ended in tragedy. Here, an F-16 flies over the Dead Sea.

MIGRATING BIRDS CAUSE PLANE CRASHES
An eagle that flew into the air intake of an F-16 forced the pilot to bail out, causing the plane to crash. Another bird hit a helicopter. Most accidents happen during migrating seasons.
MIGRATING BIRDS ENCOUNTER DANGERS
Migrating birds encounter many dangers in their lifetime, such as electrocution (above) by power lines or drowning (below) when they are blown out to sea by strong storm winds.

"TAKE CARE - WE SHARE THE AIR!"
Research has succeeded in reducing accidents between planes and birds by 88 percent. This has saved about $300-million. To increase the pilots' awareness of the subject, all squadrons have posters with the slogan "Take Care - We Share the Air!"
