Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Majalli Whbee is currently visiting Brasilia, capital of Brazil, within the framework of a political tour aimed at strengthening connections between the two countries. Deputy FM Whbee met with the Brazilian Foreign Minister, the Minister of Justice, and with the chairmen of the Brazilian Congress and Senate.
During his visit, Deputy FM Whbee endeavored to explain to his Brazilian counterparts the importance of the sanctions policy against Iran and the dangers emanating from that country's nuclear program despite the findings of the American report.
In his meeting with Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim, Deputy FM Whbee signed an agricultural cooperation agreement, which determined that the government of Israel and the government of the Federative Republic of Brazil agree to develop, promote and broaden agricultural cooperation between the two countries.
According to the agreement, the issues to be promoted are:
1. Merging efforts in the attempt to achieve national and institutional goals of agricultural development
2. Promotion of the exchange of technological and scientific knowledge, for the mutual advantage of the agricultural sectors of both countries, and exchange of data relating to agricultural policies and their implementation.
3. Strengthening cooperation between agricultural sector unions and organizations in both countries.
Among other issues, this cooperation will include:
- Agricultural training and instruction
- Transfer of technologies
- Exchange of scientific and technological information relating to the agricultural sector
- Promotion of private investment in the agricultural sector
- Use of marginal water in irrigation systems
- After-harvest technologies and methods
- Upgrading of marketing systems for fresh agricultural produce
- Promotion of joint initiatives
Deputy FM Whbee commended the agreement, stating that "This is an agreement of cooperation between two world leaders in agriculture. The agreement will enable each country to utilize the experience of the other, to develop the agronomical sector, to expand it and to increase the quality of agricultural production."
