(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesman)
The 9th Moscow International Fair of Intellectual Literature NON/FICTION opened on Wednesday (28 November 2007). The event is taking place at the Central House of Artists opposite Gorky Park, and will continue for five days. The Israeli embassy in Moscow initiated an Israeli national booth in cooperation with the Institute for the Translation of Hebrew Literature.
The Moscow international book fair NON/FICTION is one of the central book fairs in Russia. This year, 250 book publishers from 20 countries will be represented. Over 30,000 visitors are expected.
One of the prominent visitors to the fair is Israeli author David Grossman, whose book See Under: Love is being published in Russian. The author will appear at the book fair opening, and will hold discussions with readers and intellectuals. The author will also participate in a ceremony at the home of Israeli ambassadress to Moscow, Anna Azari, where he will meet with members of the media, the government and heads of cultural institutions. Grossman's visit to Moscow began with discussions with leading writers at the Israel Culture Center.
David Grossman's first visit to Moscow as a guest of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs is receiving a lot of public and media attention. The author is well known to Russian readers, as several of his books, such as Someone to Run With and Lion’s honey: the myth of Samson have been published in Russian.
Children's literature is the central theme of this year's book fair, and the MFA, together with curator Liora Grossman, has created an impressive exhibit of illustrations of children's books published in Israel.
