PM Barak: Monday's Events Must Not be Allowed to Recur

(Communicated by the Prime Minister's Media Adviser)

Jerusalem, May 15, 2000

Prime Minister Ehud Barak spoke Monday evening, 15.5.2000, with Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat and made it clear to him that he regards Monday's events with utmost gravity. Prime Minister Barak added that such events must not be allowed to recur and said that the two sides' representatives must discuss the events forthwith and draw the necessary lessons.

Prime Minister Barak demanded that the PA take all necessary measures to prevent additional injury to people on both sides. He informed Chairman Arafat that the implementation of yesterday's decision on changing the status of the Abu-Dis area will be implemented only after yesterday's events have been clarified with the PA.
