  PM Barak Directs Minister Ben-Ami to Cut Short Talks with Palestinians

Jerusalem, May 22, 2000

Prime Minister Ehud Barak yesterday (Sunday), 21.5.2000, directed Public Security Minister Shlomo Ben-Ami to cut short the current round of talks with the Palestinians due to the situation in the territories and the need to be briefed prior to the continuation of the Prime Minister's round of talks with other world leaders. (It will be recalled that Prime Minister Barak has recently spoken with French President Jacques Chirac, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, King Abdallah II of Jordan, UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and US National Security Adviser Sandy Berger.)

Minister Ben-Ami and attorney Gilad Sher are due to return to Israel this morning (Monday), 22.5.2000.
