PM Sharon Independence Day greetings 2005

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s Message to the Diaspora Communities
57th Israel Independence Day
May 2005

It is my pleasure to send you warm greetings from Jerusalem - the eternal and undivided capital of the State of Israel and the Jewish people - on the occasion of the 57th Yom Ha’atzmaut of Israel.

The State of Israel is a modern and vibrant country built on deep and ancient foundations.  It is a country risen from the ashes the Holocaust, a country of refugees which has become a haven for Jews from all over the world.  As the only free and open democracy in the Middle East, the State of Israel has developed, flourished and prospered in its 57 years of existence.  We are among the world leaders in the fields of technology, medicine, agriculture and the arts, as we continue to stride boldly into the 21st century.

Despite the hardships we face, the people of Israel remain strong and resilient, and with the support and solidarity of our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora, we will be able to overcome all challenges on our path.  We share a common history and heritage, and are entrusted with the mission of ensuring the future of the Jewish state.  You can do your part by making Aliyah and coming home.  My goal of one million new immigrants over the next decade remains firm, and as we welcome the dawn of a new era of hope and optimism, we need you with us here more than ever before.

Chag Sameach.

Ariel Sharon
