Victims of Shfaram terror shooting

4 Aug 2005

Pvt. Eden Nathan Zaada, 19, was an IDF deserter from Rishon Lezion, who recently moved to the West Bank settlement of Tapuah. Wearing an IDF uniform, he opened fire on passengers on a bus in the Israeli Arab town of Shfaram on Thursday afternoon (August 4, 2005), killing four people and wounding 12. The terrorist was killed by a mob that boarded the bus after the shooting.

The victims of the attack  (left to right); Hazar Turki, 23; Dina Turki, 21; Michel Bahus, 56; Nader Hayak, 52.

Hazar Turki and her sister Dina were killed while returning home from Haifa, where they had gone to hand in Dina's application to a teacher-training college, where Hazar also studied. The youngest in the family, the sisters were described as full of life and humor.

Hazar and Dina Turki were buried in the Muslim cemetery in Shfaram. They are survived by their parents, three daughters and two brothers.

As an Egged driver for nearly 30 years, Michel Bahus, the bus driver,  was a well known figure in Shfaram. A relative, Geris Andreaus said that Bahus "took care of his family, worked day and night to support them. He was never interested in politics and he always said that as a bus driver he felt safe from attack."

Michel Bahus was buried in the Christian cemetery in Shfaram. He is survived by his wife and three children, aged 17,14 and 10.

Nader Hayak, unmarried, worked in a grocery store that was a local gathering place. His sister-in-law, Suhil Hazan, said, "Nader was loved in Shfaram, because he wouldn't hurt a fly." He was killed on his afternoon break, while on his way to the beach in Haifa, seated near his friend, bus driver Michel Bahus.

Nader Hayak was buried in the Christian cemetery in Shfaram. He is survived by his parents Atallah, 81, and Violet, 77, three brothers and two sisters.
