Greetings from the President of the State of Israel
to the Jewish Communities in the Diaspora
on the occasion of Israel's 63rd Independence Day
Dear Friends,
As we celebrate 63 years of statehood, we can look back on the historic miracle of the birth of a nation - the State of Israel. And we can laud one of our greatest leaders, David Ben-Gurion, for declaring the establishment of a Jewish state - a homeland - one momentous day in May 1948. Immediately afterward we were attacked - outmanned, outnumbered, outgunned.
From the debris of the War of Independence arose one of the best and most moral armies in the world. The desert turned into a model of state-of-the-art agriculture admired by all. Israel's development in fields such as hi-tech, science, technology and medicine has placed her at the forefront of advances in these areas the world over.
On the day of the proclamation of the State of Israel, it was stated that this newly founded nation would be based on freedom, justice and peace as envisaged by the prophets of Israel. We abide by the Jewish code of moral values instilled in us.
We are still facing evil forces, especially those that emanate from Iran. This call, by a regime that is a danger to the entire world, should be met by an uncompromising mobilization of the international community. We are determined, together with our supporters everywhere, to fight anti-Semitism and delegitimization.
The State of Israel is prepared to do its share, even at a painful cost, to achieve peace with our neighbors. We are hopeful that the winds of change sweeping our region will herald new opportunities of peace, security and prosperity for all.
We all share the hope that Gilad Shalit will be reunited with his family immediately.
The bridges of kinship that link the Jewish state with the Jewish communities around the world are vital to us. You are full partners in our success. Looking back, we have much to be proud of. Looking forward, we still have much to achieve. Together we can accomplish anything and everything. Together we can prevail. And together we shall celebrate many more independence days to come.

Queridos amigos,
Al celebrar los 63 años de la Independencia, podemos mirar hacia atrás y contemplar el histórico milagro del nacimiento de una nación: el Estado de Israel. Podemos también ensalzar a uno de nuestros mayores líderes, David Ben-Gurion, por haber declarado el establecimiento de un Estado judío, una patria judía, en esa trascendental fecha de mayo de 1948. Inmediatamente fuimos atacados por fuerzas que nos superaban en número y armamento.
De los escombros de la Guerra de la Independencia se levantó uno de los mejores ejércitos del mundo, uno de los más decentes y virtuosos. El desierto se convirtió en un modelo de la agricultura más avanzada, admirada por todos. El desarrollo de Israel en áreas como la tecnología, la ciencia y la medicina le ha colocado en la primera línea de estos campos en el mundo entero.
Junto con la proclamación del Estado de Israel, se declaró que esta nación recién establecida se fundamentaría en la libertad, la justicia y la paz, acorde con la visión de los Profetas de Israel. Respetamos el código judío de valores morales que nos han inculcado.
Seguimos haciendo frente a fuerzas malignas, especialmente las que emanan de Irán. Este desafío de un régimen que constituye un peligro para el mundo entero debe ser enfrentado mediante la movilización sin concesiones de la comunidad internacional. Estamos decididos, junto a nuestros aliados de todas partes, a luchar contra el antisemitismo y la deslegitimación.
El Estado de Israel está preparado para contribuir con su parte, aunque sea a un precio doloroso, a la concertación de la paz con sus vecinos. Esperemos que los vientos de cambio que soplan en nuestra región anuncien nuevas oportunidades de paz, seguridad y prosperidad para todos.
Todos alentamos la esperanza de que Guilad Shalit vuelva a reunirse inmediatamente con sus seres queridos.
Los lazos de familia que vinculan al Estado de Israel con las comunidades judías del mundo son esenciales para nosotros. Ustedes participan plenamente en nuestros logros. Mirando hacia atrás comprobamos que tenemos mucho de qué enorgullecernos, y mirando adelante vemos que queda mucho por hacer. Juntos podremos alcanzar cualquier objetivo, juntos podemos triunfar. Y juntos seguiremos celebrando muchos aniversarios de la Independencia en los días venideros.

Chers amis,
Alors que nous célébrons 63 ans d’indépendance, nous pouvons nous retourner sur le miracle historique de la naissance d’une nation - l’Etat d’Israël. Et nous pouvons louer l’un de nos plus grands dirigeants, David Ben-Gourion, d’avoir annoncé, en un jour mémorable de mai 1948, la création d’un Etat juif - d’une patrie. Immédiatement après, nous étions attaqués - par des forces supérieures en nombre et mieux armées.
Sur les débris de la Guerre d’Indépendance, allait s’édifier l’une des armées les meilleures et les plus éthiques du monde. Le désert se transforma en un modèle d’agriculture de pointe, admiré de tous. Le développement d’Israël dans les domaines du high-tech, des sciences, de la technologie et de la médecine l’a placé au premier rang mondial de ces secteurs.
Le jour de la proclamation de l’Etat d’Israël, il fut déclaré que cette nation nouvelle-née serait basée sur la liberté, la justice et la paix - telles qu’envisagées par les Prophètes d’Israël. Nous nous conformons au code juif de valeurs morales qui nous ont été inculquées.
Nous affrontons encore aujourd’hui des forces mauvaises, et en particulier celles en provenance d’Iran. Cette menace, venant d’un régime qui constitue un danger pour le monde entier, doit initier une mobilisation sans compromis de la communauté internationale. Nous sommes déterminés, avec nos partisans en tout lieu, à combattre l’antisémitisme et la délégitimation.
Même si le prix doit en être douloureux, l’Etat d’Israël est prêt à accomplir sa part pour faire la paix avec nos voisins. Nous espérons que les vents du changement qui soufflent sur notre région initieront de nouvelles opportunités de paix, de sécurité et de prospérité pour tous.
Nous partageons tous l’espoir que Gilad Shalit retrouve immédiatement sa famille.
Les liens intimes qui unissent l’Etat juif aux communautés juives de par le monde sont cruciaux pour nous. Vous êtes pleinement partenaires de notre réussite. En nous tournant vers le passé, nous pouvons être fiers de nos réalisations. En nous tournant vers l’avenir, nous voyons encore un long chemin à parcourir. Ensemble nous pouvons tout réussir. Ensemble nous pouvons l’emporter. Et ensemble, nous célébrerons les fêtes de l’Indépendance à venir.

Дорогие друзья,
Сегодня, празднуя 63-летие государства Израиль, мы оглядываемся назад и видим историческое чудо рождения новой страны – государства Израиль. Мы чтим память одного из наших величайших лидеров – Давида Бен-Гуриона, который провозгласил создание еврейского государства, нашей родины, в знаменательный день в мае 1948 года. Сразу после этого провозглашения на нас напал враг, превосходящий нас по численности и вооружению.
Во время той далекой Войны за независимость родилась одна из самых лучших армий мира, уровень морали которой трудно переоценить. В пустыне было создано образцовое современное сельское хозяйство, вызывающее восхищение всех, кто знаком с ним. Достижения Израиля в таких областях, как высокие технологии, наука, техника и медицина поставили его в число государств, добившихся наибольшего прогресса в мире. Мы придерживаемся еврейского кодекса моральных ценностей, которые были впитаны нами с молоком матери.
В день провозглашения государства Израиль было объявлено, что эта вновь созданная страна будет зиждиться на принципах свободы, справедливости и мира, как предсказывали пророки Израиля.
Нам все еще приходится бороться с силами зла, проявление которых особенно заметно в Иране. Призывы, исходящие от режима, представляющего опасность для всего мира, должны встретить бескомпромиссный отпор всего международного сообщества. Мы полны решимости бороться с антисемитизмом и делегитимацией Израиля, и наши сторонники во всем мире помогают нам в этой борьбе.
Государство Израиль готово внести свою лепту, даже если она будет болезненной, в достижение мира с нашими соседями. Мы надеемся, что ветер перемен, наполнивших наш регион, станет предвестником новых возможностей для достижения мира, безопасности и процветания.
Мы все разделяем надежду, что Гилад Шалит воссоединится со своей семьей.
Мосты единства, которые служат связующим звеном между еврейским государством и еврейскими общинами всего мира, чрезвычайно важны для нас. Вы являетесь полноправными партнерами в наших достижениях. Cari amici,
In occasione della celebrazione dei 63 anni di vita del nostro stato, possiamo guardare indietro ed ammirare il miracolo storico della nascita dello Stato d’Israele. Possiamo lodare uno dei nostri più grandi leader, David Ben-Gurion,per aver proclamato la costituzione di uno stato ebraico, una patria, in un giorno importante del maggio 1948. Immediatamente dopo quest'annuncio, fummo attaccati mentre eravamo male equipaggiati, male armati edinferiori di numero.
Da questa guerra d’indipendenza è sorto unesercito oggitra i migliori e i più eticiche esistano al mondo. Il deserto si trasformò in un modello di agricoltura d'avanguardia ammirata da tutti. Lo straordinario sviluppo dell'hi-tech, della scienza,della tecnologia e della medicina ha fatto balzareIsraele all'avanguardia inquesti settori in tutto il mondo.
Nel giorno della proclamazione dello stato di Israele, fu stabilito che la nuova nazione si sarebbe fondata sui valori di libertà, giustizia e pace, così come immaginarono i profeti di Israele. Noi teniamo fedeal codice dei valori morali instillatoci dalla tradizione ebraica.
Siamo tuttora minacciati dalle forze del male, specialmente quelle provenienti dall'Iran. Questa sfida, che viene da un regime pericoloso per il mondo intero, deve essere fronteggiata da unainflessibile mobilitazione della comunità internazionale. Insieme ai nostri sostenitori,presenti ovunque, siamo determinati a combattere l'antisemitismo e la delegittimazione.
Lo stato di Israele è pronto a fare la sua parte, anche a prezzo doloroso, per conseguireuna pace con i nostri vicini. Siamo fiduciosi che i venti di cambiamento che stanno soffiando nella nostra regione possano portare nuove opportunità di pace, sicurezza e prosperità.
Tutti condividiamo la speranza che Gilad Shalit possa essere riunito con la sua famiglia il più presto possibile.

anläßlich des 63. Unabhängigkeitstages des Staates Israel
Liebe Freunde,
Während wir den 63. Jahrestag unserer Staatsgründung begehen, können wir auf das historische Wunder der Geburt einer Nation zurückblicken – die Geburt des Staates Israel. Für diesen Schritt gebührt unser Dank einem unserer größten Staatsmänner, David Ben-Gurion, der an einem bedeutsamen Tag im Mai 1948, die Gründung eines jüdischen Staates – einer Heimstätte – verkündete. Im unmittelbaren Anschluss daran wurden wir angegriffen – die Angreifer waren uns zahlenmäßig und ausrüstungsmäßig weit überlegen.
Aus den Trümmern des Unabhängigkeitskrieges ging eine der besten und moralischsten Armeen der Welt hervor. Die Wüste verwandelte sich in ein von allen bewundertes Vorbild hochtechnologischer Landwirtschaft. Dank Israels Entwicklung im Bereich von Hi-Tech, Wissenschaft, Technologie und Medizin gehört dieses Land zu den weltführenden Innovatoren in diesen Fachbereichen.
Am Tage der Unabhängigkeitserklärung des Staates Israel wurde verkündet, dieser neugegründete Staat werde auf der Grundlage von Freiheit, Gerechtigkeit und Frieden entstehen, wie es die Propheten Israels vorgesehen hatten. Wir richten uns nach dem jüdischen Kodex moralischer Werte, der tief in uns verankert ist.
Noch immer stehen wir den Kräften des Bösen gegenüber, insbesondere denen, die aus dem Iran kommen. Diesem Aufruf, ausgehend von einem Regime, das die gesamte Welt in Gefahr bringt, sollte eine kompromisslose Mobilisierung der internationalen Staatengemeinschaft gegenübertreten. Wir sind fest entschlossen, mit unseren Freunden in der ganzen Welt, gegen Antisemitismus und Delegitimierung anzukämpfen.
Der Staat Israel ist bereit, seinen Beitrag zu leisten, um den Frieden mit seinen Nachbarn zu erzielen und sogar einen hohen Preis dafür zu bezahlen. Wir hegen die Hoffnung, dass die Veränderungen, die sich in unserem Teil der Welt anbahnen, neue Möglichkeiten eröffnen, - Möglichkeiten für Frieden, Sicherheit und Wohlergehen für alle Menschen.
Wie sind vereint in der Hoffnung, Gilad Shalit unverzüglich wieder bei seiner Familie zu sehen.
Die verwandtschaftlichen Bande, die den jüdischen Staat mit den jüdischen Gemeinden der ganzen Welt verbinden, sind uns sehr wichtig. Sie sind wichtige Partner unseres Erfolgs. Zurückblickend haben wir gute Gründe, stolz auf unsere Leistungen zu sein. In der Zukunft stehen noch große Ziele vor uns. Gemeinsam können wir alles verwirklichen. Gemeinsam können wir unsere Ziele erreichen. Und gemeinsam werden wir zahlreiche weitere Unabhängigkeitsfeiern begehen.
