SELECTED PROJECTS
China
Yongledian Horticulture Demonstration Farm
The Yongledian Horticulture Demonstration
Farm was established in 1994 following the
signing of a bilateral agreement between
the governments of Israel and China. The
objective of the project is to establish a
central demonstration farm facility for
adapted technologies, crop diversification
and dissemination of know-how in various
agricultural fields. The project is located
on the outskirts of Beijing based on a 75
ha land area.
The project focuses on high
value crops, including flowers and vegetables
and fruit. These crops are grown under
both Chinese and Israeli greenhouse
technologies combined with agricultural
high tech equipment inputs. The project
also includes a nursery facility for high
quality seedlings, both for the farm and to
outreach agricultural projects. The project
comprises various orchards, post-harvest
facilities as well as training and
demonstration activities.
The project operates as a closed economic
unit and is focusing its marketing activities
towards the high quality markets of Beijing.
Professionally, the project is managed by
an Israeli expert working alongside his
Chinese counterparts to ensure a
continuous output of high quality produce,
introduction of innovative technologies,
production practices, combined with training
and demonstration.
This project is jointly conducted between
MASHAV and the Ministry of Agriculture
of the Republic of China. (More...)
Yongledian Dairy Cattle Demonstration Farm
The aim of this project is to improve
dairy yields and profitability through use
of advanced technologies and dairy cattle
farm management techniques.
Construction of the dairy farm
commenced in 2001, involving renovation
of a previously existing dairy farm
according to detailed plans formulated
by MASHAV in cooperation with local
partners. Equipment for the farm was
donated by MASHAV, which also provided
extensive technical support in the form
of a long-term on-site Israeli expert. In
May 2001, the farm's new milking parlor
went into operation.
Today, there are 600 cows in the dairy.
Yields have improved 20-25%, in particular
due to improved fodder management.
In light of the project's success, local
partners decided to expand the project,
building further dairy facilities in
accordance with MASHAV plans and
expertise.
The project has become a demonstration
center for dairy farmers. Farmers from
across China have come in order to view
the farm and to consult on new
technologies and management practices.
India
Horticultural Demonstration Farm,
IARI, New Delhi
The Indo-Israeli Horticultural
Demonstration Farm is located at IARI
Research Center in Pusa and is a result of
a technical cooperation agreement between
the two countries. The aim of the project
is to demonstrate various methods of
cultivation, irrigation and fertigation
technologies, crop diversification both in
vegetables, flowers and orchard crops. The
farm is designed to become a focal
demonstration site, including research and
development (R & D) and extension to
rural areas. Farmers from all over India
can receive there detailed information and
training.
The farm became operational in 2000. The
main technological and professional
components include greenhouse facilities
of about 1 ha of flowers, 2 ha of vegetables,
1.6 ha of orchards. The project comprises
a nursery, post-harvest facilities and other
management support services.
This project is jointly conducted by
MASHAV and the Indian Agricultural
Research Institute (IARI) and is managed
by two Israeli experts working alongside
their Indian counterparts.
Philippines
Los Baños High Value Commercial Crops Development Program (HVCCDP)
The project introduces new technologies
for agricultural production, such as
greenhouses and high tunnel technologies,
which provide suitable conditions for the
growing of high quality vegetables during
the entire year. The activities also examine
production practices during the rainy season.
In addition, the project demonstrates
vegetable cultivation, irrigation and fertigation
methods in open fields. The total area of
the farm is roughly 9 ha.
The project is conducted jointly by MASHAV,
Los Baos University and USAID and is
managed by an Israeli expert. This expert
is also working with the FAO to establish
demonstration units with members of
cooperatives in different locations in the
Philippines, and to establish training programs
for the farmers. (More...)
