The Negev Institute for Strategies of Peace and Development (NISPED) focuses on societies
undergoing fundamental processes of transformation: from conflict to conflict resolution; from the
rigidities of centralized economies and political dictatorship to democracy and free market economies;
from poverty and dependence to selfhood and socio-economic advance. Despite their differences,
these transitions share certain common elements, such as the centrality of the civil society to the
success of the transformation process and the recognition that effective transformation takes place
within the context of sustainable human development.
NISPED's activities include education and training, project initiation and development and consultancy
in regard to these transformations and related concerns. Courses, seminars and workshops are given
for leaders and trainers from relevant civil society and government bodies. NISPED also assits in the
planning, guidance and evaluation of projects and the provision of consultancy services to public and
private institutions and facilitates networking between bodies and institutions sharing similar interests
in these areas.
In addition to its overall framework, NISPED includes the following three specialized divisions:
The International Center for the Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises (InCeP-SME)
provides training and education, project promotion and consultancy services in this field.
The Arab-Jewish Center for Equality, Empowerment and Cooperation (AJEEC), established by
NISPED with a three-fold goal: the promotion of full equality in all areas of life; the furtherance
of the empowerment of the Arab and particularly of the Bedouin communities which is a prerequisite
for such equality and the promotion of cooperation between the Jewish and Arab communities.
To these ends the AJEEC has developed training programs and projects in such fields as education,
leadership and employment.
The International Center for Cooperative Studies (ICeCoS), a new division, is developing
educational programs as well as project promotion and consultancy activities relevant for cooperatives,
people-centered enterprises and similar endeavors.
NISPED's courses are conducted in partnership with MASHAV and with other bodies, including the
ILO, UNIDO, UNDP, UNESCO and WASME. In general, NISPED seeks to collaborate with likeminded
bodies in Israel and in the world.
