Training Course on the Role of the Media in Areas of Conflict
The International Institute was established in 1950 as a joint initiative of MASHAV and the Histadrut - the General Federation of Labor in Israel. The International Institute trains leaders from emerging countries in various subjects, such as credit institutions for civil society, women's empowerment programs, social security networks, rural area non-agricultural employment programs, community medicine, NGOs and the democratic society, structural adjustment and globalization of the economy, youth leadership, management of voluntary organizations, community empowerment and education for democracy and peace. The Institute provides training both in Israel and in on-the-spot courses in host countries. Courses are provided in English, Russian, Arabic, French, Spanish and Eastern European languages.

The Institute attempts to provide training solutions to the changing needs of grassroots and community level activities for the promotion of national development in developing countries, through people-based organizations. The central tenet of the Institute's training is the notion that peoples' organizations and other civil society organizations belonging in the civil society play an important role in sustainable development.
