Beekeeping Development Project, Côte d'Ivoire
  SELECTED PROJECTS

Côte d'Ivoire

Beekeeping

The beekeeping development project in Côte d'Ivoire aims at introducing and enhancing this agricultural branch and developing it as a source of income for the rural population.

Within a five-year period, MASHAV has contributed significantly to the beekeeping training center in Katiola. This center trained and provided assistance to dozens of farmers, focusing on the young generation, as well as disseminating know-how and appropriate technologies to other parts of the country. This project is carried out jointly by MASHAV, USAID, the Government of Côte d'Ivoire, the Ministries of Agriculture and Youth, ANADER and FDFP.

Eritrea

Hyperbaric Chamber

Planning began on a hyperbaric chamber to be donated by MASHAV. The chamber is considered essential to the development of scuba-diving-based tourism in Eritrea, an important potential source of income.

Ethiopia

Agricultural Development and Settlement - Kobo Demonstration Farm

The project promoted the process of transition from traditional agriculture to modern farming, introducing new methods of cultivation, fertigation and irrigation and appropriate farming practices.

The project is based on a core of families jointly cultivating about 8 ha. Each farmer is responsible for his own separate plot. Soil preparation, irrigation and input supplies, including marketing, are carried out jointly by the farmers. This irrigation project is conducted jointly by MASHAV, the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture and USAID. (More...)

Kenya

Kibwezi Agricultural Demonstration Farm

The project encompasses advanced cultivation and irrigation technologies. It is based on two main components: a commercial farm and a training and extension center. The farm is managed on a self-sustaining basis. About 42 ha of vegetables and fruit trees are being cultivated and irrigated under a pressurized irrigation network system. The project's main goal is demonstrating farming activities in typical semi-arid conditions, including research and various irrigation and fertigation methods.

Another objective of the project is transferring know-how to about 400 farmers in the vicinity and training for university students. The project is jointly carried out by MASHAV, the University of Nairobi, USAID and the Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture. (More...)

Senegal

Agricultural Demonstration and Development - Fossil Valley Project

The project's objective is to support and encourage regional development of the Fossil Valley by introducing new methods of horticulture cultivation, irrigation and improved farming practices in the region and in other parts of Senegal.

A demonstration farm facility of 14 ha has been established, including irrigation and fertigation infrastructure. The farm is functioning both as a commercial demonstration unit and as an instructional training site for the farmers in the area. (More...)

Hatcliff Drip and Micro-Irrigation Demonstration Plot

The project focuses on use of modern irrigation and fertilization methods in order to save water and improve fruit and vegetable quality and yields. The demonstration farm is accompanied by a training program aimed at transferring know-how to small holders. The project is in two phases. The first phase involved the establishment of a 3 hectare semi-commercial farm with various fertilization and irrigation methods. The second phase was the establishment of demonstration units for small holders on irrigation methods displayed at the units.
