Cpl. Doron Sviri

Aug 26, 2001 - Doron Sviri, 20, of Jerusalem was fatally injured when Palestinian gunmen opened fire on the family car, as he was driving his sister and her familiy home on the Jerusalem-Modi'in road on Saturday night (August 25). He died the following day.
Cpl. Doron Sviri, on leave from the army, had returned home from vacation with his friends in Eilat. He volunteered to drive his sister, Sharon Ben-Shalom and her family from Jerusalem, where they had spent Shabbat with Sharon's parents, to their home in Ofarim. Palestinians opened fire from a passing vehicle, fatally wounding Doron and killing Sharon and Yaniv, her husband. Their two daughters - Efrat, 20 months old, and Shahar, 8 months old - were lightly injured.
Doron grew up in Jerusalem and studied electronics at the ORT Lady Davis high school. After an extra year of study, he enlisted in the air force as an electrical engineer.
Doron Sviri was buried at the Mount Herzl military cemetery in Jerusalem. He is survived by his parents, and two brothers, Noam and Alon.
