Esther Avraham

Dec 12, 2001 - Esther Avraham, 42, of Emmanuel, was one of 11 people killed in a terrorist attack on an Israeli bus and several passenger cars near the entrance to Emmanuel in Samaria.

At 18:00 PM, on the fourth night of Hanukkah, three terrorists attacked a No. 189 Dan bus traveling to the ultra-Orthodox settlement of Emmanuel from Bnei Brak, as well as several passenger cars, with a roadside bomb, anti-tank grenades, and light arms fire at 18:00 P.M. Ten people were killed and about 30 were injured.

Esther Avraham had gone with her 19-year-old daughter to buy clothes for her nephew's wedding. On their way home, she sat next to the window on the bus and was killed.

The family had just recently moved to Emmanuel from their home city, Rehovot. "We wanted to turn over a page, start a new life," said her husband. "She told me that at last she was happy. Just when everything was looking so great, this tragedy fell upon us."

Esther Avraham was buried in Rehovot. She is survived by her husband and five children.
