Dec 1, 2001 - Guy Vaknin, 19, of Jerusalem, was one of 11 young people killed on Saturday night at the Ben Yehuda pedestrian mall in the center of Jerusalem.

At about 11:30 P.M., two suicide bombers detonated explosive devices on Ben Yehuda Street, the pedestrian mall frequented by many young people on Saturday night. A car bomb exploded nearby 20 minutes later. In addition to the 11 people killed, about 180 were injured in the terrorist attack.

A resident of the Orthodox Beit Israel neighborhood of Jerusalem, Guy studied mechanics at the Amit religious borading school in Petah Tikva. He was to begin his army service in a few months.

On Saturday night Guy went downtown with his girlfriend, whom he het met recently. After the first blast, he headed towards Zion Square, and was fatally injured by the second bomb. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died soon afterwards.

One of Guy's friends said, "He was such a quiet boy, very polite, who helped his friends, making an effort even when it wasn't needed."

Guy Vaknin was buried in Jerusalem. He is survived by his parents, Eti and Meir, two brothers and two sisters.
