Ina Frenkel
Dec 2, 2001 - Ina Frenkel, 60, of Haifa, was one of 15 people killed in a suicide bombing on an Egged bus No. 16 in Haifa.
The bombing occurred shortly after noon, when a Hamas suicide bomber boarded an Egged No. 16 bus traveling from the Neveh Sha'anan district, paid the driver with a large bill, then blew himself up as the driver asked him to collect his change.
Ina Frenkel and her son, Mikhail (32), immigrated to Israel from Moscow 11 years ago. In Russia she taught German, and in Israel she lived in the Neveh Sha'anan quarter of Haifa and worked as a caregiver for the elderly.
Ina's family was not worried initially by news of the blast, as she normally did not take the No. 16 line. Later they learned that she had met a friend and joined her on the fatal bus ride.
Her son married last year, and Ina was looking forward to the upcoming birth of her first grandchild, due 10 days after the terrorist attack. "She talked about her soon-to-be-born grandchild all the time. She was so happy," related her older sister Marietta Mostov.
Ina Frenkel was buried in Haifa. She is survived by her sister and her son Mikhail.
