Sept 6, 2001 - Lt. Erez Merhavi, 23, of Moshav Tarum was killed in an ambush shooting near Kibbutz Bahan, east of Hadera, while driving to a wedding. Fatah-Tanzim claimed responsibility for the attack.

The attack occurred just before 7 P.M. on the road between Kibbutz Bahan and Bir e-Sika, inside the Green Line. Lt. Erez Merhavi was driving with a fellow woman officer, Lt. Limor Vishnia. Both were off-duty, and in civilian clothing. The station wagon driven by Merhavi came under fire from a car which overtook it. Merhavi was killed outright. Limor Vishnia was seriously wounded.

Erez Merhavi grew up in Moshav Tarum, near Beit Shemesh. He graduated from the Nehalim Yeshiva, and then attended a one-year pre-military training program in Eli.

Erez began his army service in the Golani brigade, and after completing officer's training served as an adjutant in Judea and Samaria.

Lt. Erez Merhavi was buried in the Mount Herzl military cemetery in Jerusalem. He is survived by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
