  Samion Kalik

Dec 2, 2001 - Samion Kalik, of Haifa, was one of 15 people killed in a suicide bombing on an Egged bus No. 16 in Haifa.

The bombing occurred shortly after noon, when a Hamas suicide bomber boarded an Egged No. 16 bus traveling from the Neveh Sha'anan district, paid the driver with a large bill, then blew himself up as the driver asked him to collect his change.

Samion Kalik was born in Chelabinsk in Russia and immigrated to Israel with his wife, Vera, two years ago. Their two daughters remained in Russia. Samion, an avid chess player, dashed out of the house to catch the No. 16 bus in order to be on time for a chess game in the public park in Nordau Street. When he failed to appear at the park, his friends called his home and only then did his wife realize that he was on the ill-fated bus.

Samion Kalik was buried in Haifa. His daughters came to Israel to attend the funeral.
