Yelena Lomakin
Dec 2, 2001 - Yelena Lomakin, 62, of Haifa, was one of 15 people killed in a suicide bombing on an Egged bus No. 16 in Haifa.
The bombing occurred shortly after noon, when a Hamas suicide bomber boarded an Egged No. 16 bus traveling from the Neveh Sha'anan district, paid the driver with a large bill, then blew himself up as the driver asked him to collect his change.
Yelena Lomakin took the bus on the morning of the bombing to sign up for a trip to the south organized by a community center in the Neveh Yosef quarter of Haifa, and was killed.
Yelena immigrated to Israel in 1996 from the Ukraine together with her husband and daughter, while her son went to the United States. She was active in a group for new immigrants at the community center and had acclimatized well to her new life in Israel, a counselor at the center said. Lomakin was a volunteer worker with patients in a geriatric hospital.
Yelena Lomakin is survived by her husband, son and daughter.
