Yirmiyahu Salem
Dec 12, 2001 - Yirmiyahu Salem, 48, of Emmanuel, was one of 11 people killed in a terrorist attack on an Israeli bus and several passenger cars near the entrance to Emmanuel in Samaria.
At 18:00 PM, on the fourth night of Hanukkah, three terrorists attacked a No. 189 Dan bus traveling to the ultra-Orthodox settlement of Emmanuel from Bnei Brak, as well as several passenger cars, with a roadside bomb, anti-tank grenades, and light arms fire at 18:00 P.M. Ten people were killed and about 30 were injured.
Yirmiyahu Salem was near the entrance to Emmanuel when he heard the explosion. He drove to the site of the terror attack, where he was shot and killed.
Yirmiyahu became religiously observant 11 years ago. Five years ago he divorced his wife and moved from Tapuach to Emmanuel, where he worked in a local factory.
His former wife said: "Yirmiyahu was full of life. A day before the attack he was at his daughter's birthday party - it was as if he felt he was going to die. He gave everyone a big hug and said 'I love you'. That was his farewell."
Yirmiyahu Salem was buried in Petah Tikva. He leaves behind three children.
