St-Sgt Aiman Sharuf

Oct 21, 2002 - St.-Sgt. Aiman Sharuf, 20, a border policeman from Ussfiyeh, was one of 14 persons killed when a bus was blown up in a suicide attack by a terrorist driving an explosives-laden jeep near the Karkur junction.

Sharuf had boarded the No. 841 Egged bus at the stop adjacent to the Border Police Memorial in Wadi Ara, where he served with two others killed in the attack, St.-Sgt. Liat Ben-Ami and Sgt. Esther Pisahov. During the past two years he had served in Hebron, but had been stationed at the memorial for the past week after being injured in a traffic accident.

One of Sharuf's comrades in his unit related how he had visited him on guard duty two days before. "We listened to 'The Ballad of the Border Policeman,' a song written in memory of Border Police Cpl. Madhat Yusef [killed defending Joseph's Tomb in Nablus in October 2000]. We listen to this song a lot; all of us feel it also speaks a little about us."

St.-Sgt. Aiman Sharuf was buried in the military section of the Ussfiyeh Cemetery. He is survived by his parents and four siblings.
