David -Diego- Ladowski

July 31, 2002 - David (Diego) Ladowski, 29, of Jerusalem was one of nine people killed when a bomb exploded in the Frank Sinatra cafeteria on the Hebrew University Mt. Scopus campus.

The Israel Foreign Ministry mourns the tragic death of David Diego Ladowski, one of its cadets, who was killed in the terrorist bombing at the Hebrew University cafeteria.

Shortly after 13:30, while about 100 people were eating lunch, a bomb exploded in the Frank Sinatra cafeteria on the Hebrew University Mt. Scopus in Jerusalem. The explosive device was apparently planted inside the cafeteria, which was gutted by the explosion. Nine people were killed and 85 were injured. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.

David (Diego) Ladowski was born in Argentina in 1973 and immigrated to Israel in 1992. He received his B.A. in communications from the Hebrew University in 1996 and then completed his army service as an academic officer. He served as a broadcast supervisor at the Ministry of Communications until January 2001, when he joined the Israel Foreign Ministry's diplomatic cadet program, while pursuing an M.A. in public administration. On the day of the bombing, he had gone to the university to submit his last paper.

Diego had been appointed to assume the position of Second Secretary, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Israel in Lima, Peru as of 11 August 2002, as the third year of his diplomatic training. Victor Harel, Deputy Director General for Europe under whom Diego worked during the past year, said, "It was a pleasure to see his dedication, professionalism and motivation. He had a promising career in the diplomatic service. He spoke several languages, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was both brilliant and thorough. He saw his work in the Foreign Ministry as his vocation."

David Diego Ladowski was buried in Netanya. He leaves behind his parents, Avraham and Sarah, his sister, Roxanna Yehudit, and his brother, Gabriel.
