  Levina Shapira

July 31, 2002 - Levina Shapira, 53, of Jerusalem was one of nine people killed when a bomb exploded in the Frank Sinatra cafeteria on the Hebrew University Mt. Scopus campus.

Shortly after 13:30, while about 100 people were eating lunch, a bomb exploded in the Frank Sinatra cafeteria on the Hebrew University Mt. Scopus in Jerusalem. The explosive device was apparently planted inside the cafeteria, which was gutted by the explosion. Nine people were killed and 85 were injured. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.

Levina Shapira, who was born into the well-known Sofer family in Jerusalem, was married to Alex Shapira, whom she met in high school. She had worked for the Hebrew University for 33 years, since completing her army service. For the last four years, she was head of the university's Student Authority and was responsible for the registration of students. She was eating lunch with her friend and co-worker, Daphna Spruch, when she was killed.

Levina Shapira was buried in Jerusalem. She is survived by her husband Alex, their daughter Adi (29), and two sons, Zvika (27) and Uri (22).
