Avraham Bar-Or

Aug 19, 2003 - Avraham Bar-Or, 12, of Jerusalem was one of 23 persons murdered by a suicide bomber on a No. 2 Egged bus in the capital's Shmuel Hanavi neighborhood.

The attack took place at about 9 p.m. as the bus was making its way from the Western Wall to several religious neighborhoods. The Hamas suicide bomber, apparently disguised as a religious Jew, boarded the bus and detonated his bomb shortly afterwards. Seven of those killed were children and over 130 people were wounded.

Avraham was returning from a visit to the Western Wall with his parents, Naomi and Yosef, and seven of his nine siblings when the terrorist struck. His entire family was wounded.

"Avraham knew how to get along with everyone in his class and to relate to everyone," a classmate related. "Everybody loved him."

Rabbi Moshe Hayouni, principal of the Bemisila Na'aleh School, recalled that Avraham "was totally devoted to the study of Torah and was able to quote entire passages to his teachers and educators." Avraham was in the midst of preparations for his bar mitzva when he was murdered.

Avraham Bar-Or was buried in the children's section of Jerusalem's Har Hamenuhot Cemetery. He is survived by his parents and nine siblings.
