Fruma Rahel Weitz

Aug 23, 2003 - Fruma Rahel Weitz, 73, of Jerusalem was one of 23 persons murdered by a suicide bomber on a No. 2 Egged bus in the capital's Shmuel Hanavi neighborhood on August 19, 2003.

The attack took place at about 9 p.m. as the bus was making its way from the Western Wall to several religious neighborhoods. The Hamas suicide bomber, apparently disguised as a religious Jew, boarded the bus and detonated his bomb shortly afterwards. Seven of those killed were children and over 130 people were wounded.

Fruma Rahel Weitz was mortally wounded in the bombing attack and died without regaining consciousness four days later.

Weitz was accustomed to pray at the Western Wall early each morning. On the day of the attack, she changed her routine for some reason and went later in the day. She was on her way home when the terrorist struck.

A widow for the past 32 years, she raised her eight children by herself. "She was a great woman," relatives said, "who devoted her life to charitable deeds, cultivated a home in the ways of the Torah and hassidism, raised her children with warmth, and brought them all to the wedding canopy and to good deeds."

Fruma Weitz was buried in Jerusalem. She is survived by eight children and grandchildren.
