Oct 1, 2000 - Border Police Cpl. Madhat Yusuf, 19, of Beit Jann, died of gunshot wounds sustained in a gun battle with Palestinians at Joseph's Tomb in Nablus.
Border Police Cpl. Madhat Yusuf died of wounds sustained during fierce fighting at Joseph's Tomb in Nablus. Madhat, wounded in the neck by a bullet at 3 P.M., died after Palestinian security forces prevented his medical evacuation for over five hours.
In an attempt to evacuate him from the compound, OC Central Command Maj.-Gen. Yitzhak Eitan asked senior Palestinian security officials to halt the gunfire. Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Shaul Mofaz arrived at a field headquarters set up nearby to supervise the operation, and the IDF warned it would enter the city if the Palestinians failed to comply.
Border Police Cpl. Madhat Yusuf was buried in the military section of the cemetery in the Druze village of Beit Jann.
