Claude Knap
Mar 1, 2001 - Claude Knap, 29, of Tiberias was killed when a terrorist detonated a bomb in a Tel Aviv to Tiberias service taxi at the Mei Ami junction in Wadi Ara.
Claude, the oldest of three brothers, was on his way to Tiberias to visit his mother, Daniella. With him in the taxi was a young Labrador dog Claude had volunteered to raise, to be trained as a seeing-eye dog. The dog was severely injured in the blast.
Claude immigrated with his family to Israel from Chile about 20 years ago and grew up in Tiberias. Several years later his parents separated and his father returned to Chile. Claude's younger brother, Yigal, said: "Claude was like a father for me. He always took care of me, gave me pocket money and encouraged me to continue my studies at the yeshiva."
Knap, who was single, served in the Givati brigade during his army service, and afterwards traveled abroad. He had moved to Tel-Aviv two months ago, where he shared an apartment with a friend.
Claude Knap was buried in Tiberias.
