May 10, 2001 - Constantin Straturula, 52, and Virgil Martinesc, 29, Romanian citizens employed by an Israeli contractor, were killed in a bomb attack while repairing a vandalized fence in the Gaza Strip.

The two Romanian workers were killed and a third was lightly wounded after a powerful explosive device detonated shortly before 12:00 south of the Kisufim crossing point between Israel and Palestinian Authority autonomous areas. The Romanians were engaged in subcontracting work on the security fence.

The Israel Foreign Ministry sent condolences to the Romanian government and people, and the bereaved families.

A memorial service was held in Jaffa for Virgil Martinas and Constantin Straturula, attended by Romanian Ambassador to Israel Stoica.
