Dec 2, 2001 - Dr. Mikhail Zaraisky, 71, of Haifa, was one of 15 people killed in a suicide bombing on an Egged bus No. 16 in Haifa.

The bombing occurred shortly after noon, when a Hamas suicide bomber boarded an Egged No. 16 bus traveling from the Neveh Sha'anan district, paid the driver with a large bill, then blew himself up as the driver asked him to collect his change.

Dr. Mikhail Zaraisky was a retired geologist who had been living for two years in Haifa since he and his wife Marina immigrated from Sochi on the Black Sea. On the morning of the attack, he was on his way to the bank, and his wife was at work. "I heard about the terrorist attack and tried to reach him on his cellular phone," Marina said. "He didn't answer and I immediately knew something had happened. Michael never went out for long."

Mikhail Zaraisky was laid to rest in Haifa. He is survived by his wife and son, who is serving in the IDF.
