Ishmael Abadyev

Feb 4, 2001 - Ishmael Abadyev, 35, of Tirat Hacarmel, was stabbed to death by two terrorists from Jenin as he alighted from the bus on his way home from work.

Ishmael was born in the Soviet Union, in the Caucasus - one of eight siblings. The family immigrated to Israel in 1980. Fourteen-year-old Ishmael was initially sent to a boarding school, but he soon returned to Tirat Hacarmel and helped support his family.

In 1984 Ishmael began his army service in the Border Police, where he served with distinction. In 1991 he married Tami, and the couple raised their family of two in Tirat Hacarmel. Ishmael was a devoted father who worked hard to ensure them a better future. From 1996 he worked in the kitchen of the Bnei Zion Hospital in Haifa.

On the evening of February 4, 2001 he was stabbed to death by two terrorists as he was returning home by bus from work. His body was discovered the following day. The terrorists, from Jenin, were apprehended a year later and admitted to having killed him.

Ishmael Abadyev was buried in Tirat Hacarmel. He is survived by his wife, Tami, his sons Liran, 10, and Yakir, 7, as well as seven brothers and sisters.
