June 1, 2001 - Katherine Kastaniyada-Talkir, 15, of Ramat Gan, was one of 21 people killed in a suicide bombing at a Tel-Aviv discotheque shortly before midnight on Friday night.

Katherine immigrated to Israel from Colombia nine years ago with her mother. Her biological father lives in the United States. Katherine recently visited him in the U.S., after not seeing him for a long time. In Israel, her mother married Gabi Talkir, who adopted Katherine as his daughter. They have a second child, now three.

Katherine was a student at the Pitman high school in Ramat Gan. She went to the discotheque on Friday with her close friend, Alona, who was seriously injured in the attack.

She was buried in the Catholic cemetery in Jaffa.
