Oct 18, 2001 - Lior Kaufman, 30, of Ramat Sharon was killed by shots fired by terrorists at his jeep in the Judean Desert.

On Thursday evening, four jeeps making their way out of the Judean Desert were ambushed near the Mar Saba monastery as they headed for the Jerusalem-Jericho highway. Lior Kaufman was shot in the head and died shortly after. Two of his friends were injured.

Lior was studying accounting, while working at various jobs to support his family. Aviram Dvash, one of his friends, related that for Lior, his family was the center of his life - whatever happened, as soon as he saw his daughter, he would forget everything else.

Lior enjoyed sports and touring the country by jeep with friends. "The jeep he loved so much has brought about this disaster," his father said at the funeral.

Lior Kaufman was buried in Rishon Lezion. He is survived by his wife Lilach, their 2½ year old daughter Dor, his parents and sister.
