May 18, 2001 - Lt. Yair Nebenzahl, 22, of Neve Tzuf (Halamish), was killed and his mother seriously wounded, in a Palestinian roadside ambush north of Jerusalem.

Yair, an off-duty IDF officer, was returning home with his mother on Friday afternoon after visiting his brother Tzahi in Tel-Aviv, when shots were fired at the car from an olive grove.

Yair Nebenzahl had completed his officer's course two months ago. His father Menachem and mother Adina were among the founding families of Neveh Tzuf in Samaria, where they have lived since 1981.

A neighbor related that drivers are forced to slow down on the particular section of the road where the ambush took place. The point from where the shots are believed to have been fired has a very good view of the road.

Yair is survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister. He was laid to rest in the Segula cemetery in Petah Tikva.
