Dec 2, 2001 - Mark Khotimliansky, 75, of Haifa, was one of 15 people killed in a suicide bombing on an Egged bus No. 16 in Haifa.

The bombing occurred shortly after noon, when a Hamas suicide bomber boarded an Egged No. 16 bus traveling from the Neveh Sha'anan district, paid the driver with a large bill, then blew himself up as the driver asked him to collect his change.

Mark Khotimliansky immigrated to Israel 11 years ago from Baku in Azerbaijan, where he was a scientist and inventor. He first worked as a building laborer and lived in the Hadar quarter of Haifa. His daughter said he had tried unsuccessfully to interest many people in Israel in his inventions.

Khotimliansky had gone to visit his daughter who lived near the site of the explosion, and apparently boarded the bus together with the suicide bomber.

Mark Khotimliansky was buried in Haifa. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and four grandchildren.
