  Rabbi Meir Weisshaus

Sept 15, 2001 - Rabbi Meir Weisshaus, 23, of Jerusalem, was fatally shot late Saturday night in a drive-by shooting on the Ramot-French Hill road in northern Jerusalem.

Meir Weisshaus, a kashrut supervisor of the ultra-Orthodox Satmar Hassidic group, was killed when Palestinians opened fire on the car between the Ramot and French Hill neighborhoods in northern Jerusalem. Weisshaus, a yeshiva teacher, kashrut inspector, and kollel student, was fatally wounded by a bullet that hit his chest as he traveled home and died of his wounds in the Ein Karem Hadassah Hospital.

Moshe Weiss, also a kashrut supervisor, who was with him in the car was moderately injured. The terrorists apparently fled towards Ramallah.

Weisshaus was the first terror victim among the Satmar Hassidim since the establishment of Israel.

Meir Weisshaus was buried in Jerusalem. He is survived by his wife, 8 months pregnant, and a daughter.
