Dec 2, 2001 - Ronen Kahalon, 30, of Haifa, was one of 15 people killed in a suicide bombing on an Egged bus No. 16 in Haifa.

The bombing occurred shortly after noon, when a Hamas suicide bomber boarded an Egged No. 16 bus traveling from the Neveh Sha'anan district, paid the driver with a large bill, then blew himself up as the driver asked him to collect his change.

Ronen Kahalon attended the Leo Baeck high school in Haifa and had served in the navy, and had recently set up two business ventures. He was to have celebrated his 30th birthday in a few days. His parents, Tzuri and Pnina, were preparing a big party for him, and had invited the family and friends.

Ronen Kahalon was buried in Haifa. He is survived by his parents, brother and sister, and a 5-year-old daughter, Shahar.
