Sept 24, 2001 - Salit Sheetrit, 28, of Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu was killed by gunfire shortly after 6:30 near Shadmot Mehola on the Jordan Valley road.

Salit and Barak Sheetrit of Sde Eliyahu, a religious kibbutz south of Beit She'an, were on their way to distribute sweets to soldiers from their kibbutz serving in the area, before continuing on to Jerusalem. Palestinian terrorists sprayed their car with at least 20 bullets near Shadmot Mehola in the Jordan Valley. Salit was mortally wounded by a bullet in the head and was pronounced dead on the scene. Her husband was lightly wounded.

Salit Sheetrit, oldest child of Malka and Meir Gutman, was born in Ramat Gan and grew up in Mehola in the Jordan Valley. She attended school in Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu, where she met her future husband, Barak, whom she married seven years ago. They had no children.

Salit served in the army as a teacher at the Keshet field school on the Golan Heights. She studied social work at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and for the past two years was employed as a social worker in the Beit She'an municipality. Ruhama Cohen, her supervisor, related that she was endowed with great patience, above and beyond what was professionally required.

Salit Sheetrit was buried in Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu. She is survived by her husband, her parents, her sister Ela and her brother Yaacov.
